Hi,

I have a problem with backing up system state only, the server is SBS 2003 using backup exec 2010.
the problem started occurring after updating backup exec to V12 1364 service pack 5.

I get the job log error as follows:

To back up or restore System State, administrator privileges are required.
Final error category: Security Errors
For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-65149

the above link did not help, I am using user administrator and double checked all backup exec services are set to use administrator user too.
also I tried re-registering vss writers but that didn't help.

PLEASE HELP!

thank you -

Gilad

Try recreating the backup job. This is a common issue.

Also, it's not a good practice to use the "Administrator" account for the backup.  Create an AD account "BE Service" and make it a member of the administrators group. Then from within BE, double click on the "Gear" on the bottom of the window and change credentials.  This will modify the service credentials for BE.

Try adding "Backup Operators" group to the user account.  I ran into this with one of my clients and I remember working with Symantec TS on this, and they suggected adding the group to the service account.
