Hello,

When I do a backup (with backup exec 2010 R2) of our Hyper V cluster with HA virtual machines on it, virtual machines suddenly crash with an unsuspcted shutdown.

I use a Hyper V agent and should be able to make an online backup.

Our virtual machines are centrally stored on an Equallogic SAN.

Any help is welcome!

Regards,

Ron

We operate HyperV and had the same problem with 3rd party tools

i believe its something to do with dynamically expanding disks and the fact that sectors that "should" exist actually dont until the disk expands to that point

What o/s are you using on the VM's?

we have 2 running server 2008 and in the end windows backup worked perfectly

Have you installed the equallogic vss provider?

If hyper-v tries to do a hardware based vss backup without the supporting vender drivers, this can case the behaviour your seeing.

On your hosts what providers are listed if you do the following:
Start-run -> diskshadow
List providers
