how do I configure a sonicwall firewall offline, e.g. have al lInternet to enable services, register, etc.  I assume that I insert one Cat 5 from my switch into the WAN port and another cat 5 into my laptop.  I'm wondering what I need to configure to get Internet access while doing this...I believe I need to change my WAN settings to my local LAN but getting an error because of the same subnet.

Thanks

I cant test and deploy the firewall during op hours. What I want to achieve is an Internet connection with the firewall so I can update all the policies and procedures before I go live.

Thanks

You can't have the Sonicwall LAN and WAN interfaces on the same subnet. So you have two choices. If you have an outside ip address you can use, then you could make that the WAN side of the Sonicwall, and set the LAN side to something on your lan. If you don't have an outside address to use, them set your WAN port on the Sonicwall to something on your lan, and change the ip address of your pc to something on a different subnet, then connect it to the LAN port of the Sonicwall. In either case you should have internet access by default, provided that your lan permits it if you use the second option.

you may prepare two machines (one on the LAN and one on the WAN-side of your sonicwall). Then you may test your rules from the LAN-side and may check if you may reach (if wanted) several services on the WAN-machine. You may also test the other way round (if it's possible to get INTO the LAN from the WAN-side) if you intend to do so for some servers e.g.
