Is it possible to display the last sucessful and unsuccessful and number of attempts to a user  when they logonin XP. I can find the resolution in Vista or 7. But need to apply the same in an older XP machine that I am running.

The first solution is using auditing (which can be read by administrators) and is how the current config is... What I need to do is display the last attempts (successful and insuccessful... including a count) to each user signing in to an XP machine. Microsoft has created this in Vista & 7this capability as an option.  But I need it in XP.

You need to enable audit for both  "Audit Account Logon Events" and  "Audit Logon Events"

This will show all attempts to login.

They are found under Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Audit Policy
