I have a user that has CS5.5, and mostly in indesign, she experiences the following:
When indesign, if she tries to move a picture around, or do anything, it is very slow.

One thing I noticied, this happens when a file has teh following:
gradients, complicated vector artwor and drop shadows.

I had her create a new file without any of the above components and it works fine, indesign behaves normally.

She has a MAC, dual process, dual core, 2.66ghz, 9 GB ram.  I looked at the activity monitor and it's fine, the processor is under 10% and the ram used by the entire system is like at 1.5 GB or so.

Is there a setting or configuration in indesign or on this mac that I need to look at?

Does she have enough free space on her drive for the CS scratch files?

Have you run "verify disk" using disk utility to make sure that there is no disk directory corruption?

yes, she has plenty space, well over 100GB.

I have not run the verify disk, I will do that tomorrow, but I just formatted her comptuer and it's a clean install of lion from 2 weeks ago.

If you just reformatted, disk corruption is not likely the problem unless there is a physical problem with the drive. When you run verify disk, also check the S.M.A.R.T. status.

Thanks, selecting the delayed option did help a little.  the problem is still there, but at least it did help.
