I'm looking for a Core 2 (& above) laptop that comes built with
2x Gbit NIC ports & 2x USB 3.0 ports to be used as backup
server :

Plan to bond/team the 2x NIC ports to the Gbit switch & back it
up to 2x USB 3.0 external HDD connected to the laptop/desktop

The following laptop has 2x USB 3.0 ports but has only 1 LAN
GBit port, so it's still short of one NIC port:
Dell 2011 Inspiron 17R

I prefer not to get a USB2 to NIC converter in case the NIC bonding
/teaming did not work correctly.

Don't think I'll need a server but just a desktop/laptop as most servers
are rather noisy & I'm planning to place this box within users' premises

An Apple or MAC computer that meet this specs (2 LAN GBit ports
& 2 USB 3.0 ports) can be considered too as long as the cost doesn't
exceed US$2,000

in a desktop, you can easily add the Gbit nic and USB 3 cards

Thanks nobus, just that I'll have to source around for add-on cards
which sometimes resulted in compatibility issues.

Asus has one motherboard that comes with 4x USB 3.0 ports &
Dual Gigabit LAN controllers (I suppose this means 2 GBit LAN ports)

Any idea which particular model of desktop / laptop uses the above
Asus motherboard?

Hi, if you use a decent laptop with a docking station, that might give you more ports/resources if viable option?

Hi Andrew,

Can you specify a specific model of laptop which comes with a docking station
that provides 2x USB3.0 ports & 2x Gbit LAN ports?  Provide the link to the
specs if possible.

Hi Nobus,
I have a bit of issue justifying to use an Asus desktop/laptop as our company
doesn't carry Asus.  Our product sales carry HP or IBM

then you could choose any  board having 3 usb 3 ports and a Gbit lan, and add a lan card
or add an USB 3 card
