Since we have installed a new network switch a couple of users can’t get on the internet they get an exclamation mark on network connection. I have noticed these users get 0.0.0.0 for gateway but everything else works like local network.
All users have Dell PC or Laptops less than two years old all running windows7, DHCP server is a Dell Server 2003, we have no problems when I put the users back into the older switch which I have kept networked up since detecting the issue or if I setup IP manually it works.
Doesn’t happen all the time, and only to users in the new switch, out of 30 users connected it happens randomly to about 4 users and not the others?

Hi

Do these users have Adobe Creative Suite installed? Funny question I know but I had a similar issue and it turned out to be the Bonjour service.

if you think this is a switch issue, make sure the workstation ports on the switch are set to portfast (ie no spanning tree).  you still want any trunks/other switch connections to run the spanning tree protocol.  on cisco, you do it like this:

conf t
int f0/1
spanning-tree portfast

It sounds like the new switch needs IP Helper added to it. This command points the DHCP broadcast for IP configs to the DHCP server. Check to see if IP Helper is located on the new switch. Check the old switch's configs and see if there are any discrespencies. If you need help, copy and past both configs (old & new switch) here and someone will see the problem.

i think it's switch problem but first if u r using dhcp try to put a static ip adress and test ur network
if the problem still  change the new switch
