We have just installed a new Kodak I1120 A4 document scanner for one of our clients. They just asked for one that could scan and create a PDF so they can e-mail them to one of their suppliers.
However, they have now changed that request, and have asked for a facility to scan the document, identify a serial number within the document, and then save the document using this number as a file name.
We have been provided with the Omnipage PaperPort software, and wondered whether we could use this to do that for them. If not, can anyone recommend any sensibly priced software that may achieve this for them.
Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Nigel,
Do they want the creation of the file name with the serial number to be automated or are they willing to copy/paste the serial number into the file name? If the former, there's no way that PaperPort can do it (I also don't think OmniPage can do it, but I know a lot more about PP than OP). If the latter, then it's doable. PP can create a file type that it calls PDF Searchable Image (PP V12 can do this by itself; PP V9, V10, and V11 can do it if OP is installed). After scanning to a PDF Searchable Image file with PP, you can do a right-click on the Desktop thumbnail, then Properties>View Text. You will see a dialog box with the OCR'ed text. Find the serial number, select/highlight it, then click the Copy Text button, which puts it on the clipboard. Then Close, Cancel, click the file name and paste in the serial number. Regards, Joe

Many thanks. Yes, they want this to be automatic, so if I understand you correctly, the software supplied with it, will not do this? Do you know of anything that will? Many thanks for your assistance.

Nigel,
I don't know why, but I never saw the email from EE notifying me of your 6/22/11 09:26AM comment, or I would have responded to you. In any case, I'm glad that you found Nunace's eCopy and that it does what you need. Regards, Joe
