I have a new Dell Poweredge server running Exchange 2010.I believe the memory comsumption is causing the server to think the RAM sticks are overheating and the cooling fans are running constantly.  I ran the Dell hardware diag. tool and found the bios and the fan controller nedded updates. I applied those, restarted the server and was unsuccessful.

Has anyone experienced this problem?  What can I do to solve this?

The fans have been running like this for two weeks and will likely go out soon.  Not to mention the noise is unbearable.
Any help is appreciated.

What's the cpu temperatures like? Is there a BIOS update for the server? Anything in BIOS to control fan speed? Have you tried Dell support?

I also want to add that the fan issue didn't start until exchange was installed.

Yes, I have contacted Dell.  That is how I found out the bios and the iDRAC6 fan controller needed an update. The CPU temp appears to be fine.  The air coming out the back from the fans is cool to the touch.

It turns out that the BIOS update had not been applied.  As soon as it was applied the fans returned to normal speed.

My tech incorrectly stated that the BIOS update had been applied when in fact it had not yet.  When it was applied, it fixed the problem.
