I have set my media to appendable, overwriteable if not appendable, and set a reasonable threshold on the disc to leave free on the backup drive (50GB on a 1.5TB drive) and I still have problems where after but a few days (about 6) the drive is filled and ALL jobs fail to run due to disc full errors.

Why the heck wont BackupExec just overwrite the media?  This is driving me crazy!  Thanks for any suggestions or support.

Version: 13.0 Rev 2896
Server: Windows 2008 R2
Errors: Media Error....backup-to-disk device is offline....be caused by a disk full condition...

Regards,
Robert

Haven't used verison 13 but in previous verisons if you do appendable then overwrite if not appendable, most of the time it doesn't check if it has enough room for the full backup, just the first 30 percent or so (compression is assumed for this) so it thinks that it can append then all of a sudden the disk is full during the backup so it errors out.
I would set the threshhold to be 250 GB or something like that

Could it be a Problem with the ammount of days you are keeping the Media from being overwritten?
Try setting it to 3 or 4 days.

K Wilke: Setting the threshold higher would just cause this to happen sooner, the threshold I'm talking about the the minimum amount of space BackupExec will leave on the backup drive untouched....

Unattended: It currently is...in fact the Media says the following:

Overwrite Protection Until: Overwritable
Appendable Until: Not appendable (Media full)

Overwritable needs to be a lower number than appendable.  Found a screenshot from the manual that illustrated, but did not describe this.
