you can switch the databases from the database properties and then activate DB copy, or simply shutdown the server to test the automatic failover

I did a shutdown of the server but it did not work. The users mailbox pointing to that database were not able to access their mails via outlook or webmail. One database was showing as service down and other was showing healty... Please let me know how to proceed with this.

if it is showing servicedown then probably you have something wrong with you file share witness...

where is it configured

on which servers are you running CAS roles and do you have hardware/software load balancers in place?

You cant host Client Access Servers (CAS) role on a DAG member. Well you can you need an external hardware load balancer. In Exchange 2010 the clients talk to the CAS server instead of to the mailbox server directly. If you failover a DAG member also hosting the CAS role then the server your clients are talking to are suddenly no longer able to access the CAS and thus unable to access their mailbox.

when using a DAG, you should ensure your also using a seperate server for the HTS and the CAS, remember Windows Failover Clustering as used by DAG and Windows Network Load Balancing as used by HTS and CAS cannot exist on the same cluster.

did you configure the correct corresponding CLIENTACCESSSERVER property on the mailbox database, it should point to the hub/cas server

my witness server is configured to the server which is having CAS/HUB role installed on it. But, when iam switching off one of the server having mailbox installed on it, it wont do a auto failover.

1. when both nodes are up is everything healthy ?
2. you have 3 servers ? 2 in a DAG and a CAS server ?
3. from one of the DAG nodes run cmd as administrator and run
cluster group and cluster node
are both on ?

when both nodes are running the databases shows as 1 healthy and other as mounted.
We have 3 servers in total and 2 for mailbox roles and one for CAS & HUB role. You mean to say i have run cmd as local administrator or domain administrator ?

once you are logged on right click on cmd and run as administrator.

also when everything is up and mounted can you move databases form one server to the other normally without any issues ?

Akhater

yes i did it now because after some changes both trhe batabases where showing mounted on one single server. Hence, i moved it to ther server and now both databases are showing mounted in different servers. I also have one question hers i logged into server having CAS/HUB role installed and was accessing EMC but their i was not able to see multiple database copies or the DAG which we created. is it correct or wrong ?

no it is wrong

is windows firewall disabled on your nodes ?

i ran the cluster group and cluster node command as administrator and the reults are :
 group                          Node                                              status
Clustergroup             mailboxserver hostname                Failed
Available storage      CAS/HUB server hostname           offline

Cluster Node results are

Node                                                 Node ID Status

mailboxserver hostname                            1  Up
CAS/HUB server hostname                        2  UP

you obviously have an issue with your cluster

1. is firewall disabled on all your exchange nodes?

windows firewall was on  and i have turned it off through control panel now in all the servers.

I have restarted the servers... so what you want me to do after a restart ?
link

YogeshSLK

you can't erstart all the servers together

make sure you CAS is on, once it is on resatrt first node and wait
once it is up restart the the second node

run again cluster node and cluster group

let's assume....

can you see the dag copies now from the EMC of the cas ?

what is the status of cluster gorup and cluster node ?

I am not able to see the DAG copies in CASHUB server. I have ran the cluster group and node agqain and the results are :

 group                          Node                                              status
Clustergroup             mailboxserver hostname                Failed
Available storage      mailbox server hostname            offline

Cluster Node results are

Node                                                 Node ID Status

mailboxserver hostname                            1  Up
CAS/HUB server hostname                        2  UP

Check the above to verify you've set up dag correctly

also

Have you created a casarray and given it an internal virtual ip ?
Have you pointed the mailboxdatabases against the casarray for rpcclientaccessserver ?
Does your exchange servers (those that withhold the mailbox role), have two enabled NIC:s on them ? One for replication and one for MAPI connections ?

cheers
