DO you get any error messages? System state should be rather quick.

No Errors Job just hangs on any one of three Servers' System States. BEs Version 12 SP3 one Server is 2008 Sp2 the others 2003. Can only cancel by Stopping Services the Job Engine appears to hang.

This looks to be a common problem. are you able to backup the system state using NTBackup or does this fail as well?

Another note is to make sure that your BIOS is up to date and that BE is up to date.

The Backup jobs were running successfully until a week ago when the client experienced a power failure. I'm trying the jobs without System States then trying a separate job for just the System States which appears to work for others having the same issues.

you can run a disk diag, and if it is ok -  run a chkdsk on it

I ran Chkdsk on the Media Server's 2 volumes and created new jobs via Policy and Regular methods with no difference in results the job just hangs no errors. The backup are still hanging on System States and if you remove System State it hangs on VSS the only way to stop is to stop all services. I created a seperate job via non Policy method and tried to append to my Tape which had a complete backup of the Media Servers C & D minus SS & VSS and that job hangs with Status Queued. After all this we are doing a complete uninstall of Backup Exec 12 then doing a clean install of 2010 R3 this will apply to the 1 remote server's agent as well. If this does not solve the problem then we have better base to start from with Symantec's support.
In progress will let everyone know how it goes.
